I know LTJ Bukem has been panned (but not by everyone) in recent years for his Logical Progression series going on to volume 200 or something, Although I tended to like 'em, never bought any before picking up the 'Journey Inwards' LP from 2000. A lot of it does sound like Logical Progression stuff, but there's also sort of instrumental soul, breaks and even deep house. And it's all top-top notch and as wide as it's deep. And yeah the d'n'b is killer.
BTW - why is this OT? A lot of the artists (especially the older guys) have strong links to Detroit and it's music. Dego & Marc Mac have already been mentioned. The above LP has a photo of Juan Atkins on it, on the balcony of Bukem's studio overlooking Watford! Also check 'Divided Soul' by Fellowship (Creative Source) for a very pure, disciplined, so obviously Detroit techno-influenced groove, it'll make you angry! ;-) k
