I was a big fan of the Sugarcubes as well as the whole Manchester scene, so it
was inevitable that 808 State would have found its way in there.

I grew up and continue to live in the middle of nowhere: Winnipeg, Manitoba,
Canada. For some of us in the 80's, UK music culture was our first drug. It
was rare and hard to score, but every time we got our hands on something, we
were instantly elated.

We were lucky enough to have a record shop called "Impulse Records". Rumor had
it that it was opened by a member of some 80's synthpop band who returned to
Winnipeg after it broke up.

We spent our allowances on Joy Division, Depeche Mode, The Fall, The Smiths,
Flower'd Up, The Farm, Happy Mondays, Inspiral Carpets, and the Charlatans, etc
etc etc.

I didnt experience Detroit until some time after the big UK rave techno
releases in 1991.
