much melancholy?" when being confronted with the mere beauty of a bassline
or string laden arrangements... "Remember these moments when not much more
mattered than a pounding beat"...
But most of the times it's not saying anything... nothing like
"Baaaaaaaay-be bayyyyyy-be bay-beeeeee - it's getting kindaaaaa
crayyyyyyzeeeeee" - never heard that one before... I don't like pap. I don't
like gossip. I don't like stuff like this (spoken with this kinda cutesy
kinda stupid television voice):

So anyway, back to the discussion - does anyone think there is common ground
in the feelings evoked by what I call 'soul' music and techno? There are
obviously excellent examples of this in techno (the Relics EP by Abacus
immediately springs to mind). Without degenrating into the old soul vs.
machine 'debate', is there more to the fact that these separate styles
exist, in that they express different emotions or feelings? A lot of techno
is basically saying 'Come the f*ck on!', and all the better for it. Is it
merely the distinction between lyric-laden music and 'tracks'?
I guess what's on my mind is - what the f*ck is techno music SAYING??
