As said, i respect the man for taking things further and trying things
new, i mean the mix is good, no doubts about that.
But i do find a it bit to much fabricated, everything has been put
togheter so carefully and so thought of that it doesn't sound
spontaneous anymore.

Dunno what it sounds like when he plays this stuff out live..haven't
heard hem recently.

But hey, that's great about music..it sounds and means different to
everybody and that's great!

The X-Mix huh? I dunno - my fave mix has always been the Mixmag Live CD.
Quality from start to finish.

I prefer the Transitions mix to 'Closer To The Edit' - I always felt
that the concept of DE9:CE was stronger than the final product with that
one. I also think the DVD mix is better than the CD. However, I think
the main issue for me is that I feel Hawtin has been substituting
techniques for soul for a long time - this is just my opinion and I am
not dissing him at all. For me, I prefer a more raw energy than
something that feels like it is the carefully-considered execution of
some pre-existing blueprints. The clicks, ticks, beeps and creeps have
their place and can generate their own funk - but I'm probably more
inclined to side with Martijn here.

You can have too much of a good thing. Moderation is the key.

Did you hear the CD or the DVD? The end of the DVD has some very nice
finishing bits, which may tie things together for you better??? I've
only heard/seen it once so far, and not all of it at that, but I
definitely thought it was the best of the three (I've never really had
time for the other two). I'd probably have to hear it again to say if I
thought it sounded flat overall, but on my first listen, I didn't have
that impression, and it's *precisely* what I would listen for, as I
thought that was precisely the downfall of the previous two. I was
actually quite impressed! Best recorded Richie Hawtin mix since X-Mix 3
if ya ask me. I also thought his track selection was a lot more
interesting than the previous ones. That's a whole lotta K Alexi. :)
