Jacek Sienkiewicz (pl)

Jacek Sienkiewicz was born in Warsaw in 1976. In early 90ies attended first
underground raves held in Warsaw, and quickly started collecting vinyl and
DJing, from the very beginning focusing on not quite popular minimal techno.
Eager to escape limitations of standard DJ setup, Jacek soon started producing
his own music. After two years of completing gear and experimenting with
sounds, his first CD was released in early 1999. Title "Recognition" also
became a name of Jacek1s "home" record label. Until now, six vinyl EPs were
released, selling out immediately worldwide and bringing rave reviews both as
guaranteed, powerful dancefloor techno tools and carefuly crafted, original
compositions. At the very base of Jacek`s style lies originality: although
inspirations sometimes are obvious, the tracks always manage to retain a very
individual edge, keeping with a very special kind of string-driven melancholy
over accelerating beats. But artist1s imagination reaches beside dancefloor:
recently also some experimental tracks started to surface. Firstly "Item", an
EP for Berlin`s prominent magazine De:Bug, and in early 2001 another one, this
time "Pocket Control" for blooming Cologne-based Trapez Records.

Jacek still plays out as a DJ, although definitely prefers playing live. He
appeared several times live with more experimental sets, accompanying artistic
performances at Warsaw`s Centre for Contemporary Art or supporting the likes of
Mouse On Mars. His sets are often accompanied by advanced visuals, also created
by Jacek.

Being widely appreciated outside Poland, Jacek tries to stay aside Polish
techno scene, doing his thing rather than following current trends. And music
speaks for itself: crafted with soul and passion, this is techno for the
future, combining clubby dynamics with deeply original sound design.

Ok, I've got a question for you Tristan, or whoever is awake around here
and knows. I know nothing about Mr Sienkiewicz at all. Zilch. All I know
is that he's got (to me) one of the coolest names I've ever heard. I
don't know why I think it's cool but I do.

Now, you Sienkiewicz collectors, maybe you can help me.

Firstly can you tell me in a nutshell why you think he's as good as you
think he is?

Next can you recommend me a record to kick-start my own collection of
his records.

Cheers,

Ken

HELLOOOO 313 WAKE UP!!! Stupidly quiet around here lately. Let's discuss

techno and stuff.

Anyway, I think it's safe to say that Jacek Sienkiewicz is completely on

form right about now. I got his album on Cocoon a while back and was
fairly
nonplussed. Just heard clips from Recognition 015, and it's sounding
dope.
Got 014 last month and am thoroughly in love with "Still Forward ".
Arguably
as good as anything he's done. 016 is sounding fairly interesting as
well,
although I've only quickly scanned through it.

Tristan
