I guess my understanding of beatdown is similar - slower (ie no faster than mid-120 bpm), deep as hell, soulful with detroit stylings. http://www.beatdownsounds.net/ has a good description, though I wonder if it's simply a micro-genre. I just mention it because I've found a good amount of slower deep stuff recently (eg philpot records' releases) and wondered if there was perhaps more of this stuff that I was unaware of (beyond early house etc which is often slower), and so I thought 313 would be the best folk to ask about it.
