False nostalgia. It's always been a scrum.
It has been bad before but this nonsenses with Tom and everybody is just crazy...
Folks never saw a dead horse the didn't want to beat. I have heard 'word is bond' going back to my middle school days in the early 70s. I first heard 'word is born' here on this thread, and never heard the Run DMC song. The difference between me and Tom is that I see things like that and move on to the other 16384 things competing for my attention, and Tom thought a Brit needed correcting on it. That's kind of a category error in my book, because UK English isn't US English, and UK English is furthermore comprised of 20 or 30 distinct regional variations, complete with their own idioms, cliches and pronunciation rules. People could have started saying 'word is born' and assigned it its own context, meaning and emotional tone 30 years ago, and I'd never know. Of course one of the true perquisites of being a list admin is that I get to declare this thread dead, after having the last word.
