Verizon is horrible, there's a list of irate subscribers trying to 
sue them. It took them 3 months to get it installed and then i ran
a trace route to see how many hops it took just to get out of their
networks.. it was > 15 !!! Speakeasy guarantees you're out of their networks
by 2. Suffice it to say , the connection is much much faster.

Actually my current DSL provider, Verizon, doesn't even give you the option 
to purchase a static IP. I have heard great things about Speakeasy but 
Verizon wouldn't let anyone else touch the phone wires in my apartment.

Obviously if your DSL provider allows you to have a static IP you can have
one.
