Sexuality, emotions, spirituality and music are all part of the same grand
matrix.

If you talk Detroit music (or just music) to Derrick, Stacey or Carl,
anyone, I've found, sexuality, emotional expression and spirituality will
all come up at at point or another.

A lot of women love the music of Derrick and Stacey especially because it
seems to encompass both "masculine" and "feminine" elements. I guess Mills'
music is more obviously "masculine" and aggressive but his stuff has a sexy
hip-swaggerin' grind that some girls would like. (For example,
Purposemaker's Outsiders is the bomb.) As a DJ he appears aggressive but by
contrast he also exudes an incredible grace and majesty and that is
captivating, moving and sexy. I think this is part of his subconscious
appeal to clubbers of both genders.

Some DJs actually structure their sets along what could be described as a
sexual curve with your foreplay, build, etc. Except there are multiple
climaxes, I guess, in an extended set.

I was amused when Jeff did his photographic Purposemaker exhibition of what
constitutes a "DJ" and left out three components, one of which you can't
represent. The soul (which you can't photograph), the heart (you could
x-ray) and something that he'd probably be (understandably) too modest to
depict.
