I've forgotten to sent it to the list.

Thanks Gustin, Will and Ross :)

I would be fine with the proprietary driver, because I would like to use
3D too. Your informations are a help. I now think it's safe to to be
disposed to accept that 6 and 7 series are fine with open source drivers
and proprietary drivers, but 8 and 9 series might only work with the
Vesa driver or the proprietary drivers.

To be really safe I should get a 6 and 7 series NVidia, e.g. some Suse
RT kernels don't have an open source code, that will cause trouble with
the proprietary driver. I'm using 1024x768 only, but I know that there
can be problems with some settings for different distros when using the
Vesa driver and I might have to check different distros because of the
mobo's chipset.

There seems to be no serious troubles with 8 and 9 series, as far as I
understand all informations, but the easiest way seem to use NVidia
graphics from the 6 and 7 family.

Cheers,
Ralf
