My advice for a production DAW is to not use 3d proprietary drivers
unless they are *necessary*. I have had problems with rt kernels and
both ATI and nVidia proprietary drivers in the past. Also, the latest
release from nVidia does work not with 2.6.27.

It is also difficult to report bugs upstream when you have these binary
blobs installed.

My next machine will be Intel all the way through (Wireless, video, CPU,
chipset) because of the issues I have had with every other manufacturer.
If someone has the choice, this is currently the way to go.

It is not the distro that matters, but the kernel.
