I'm sorry I put the NetBSD package system in the same basket as the autoconf stuff, their relationship is merely that the package system is geared towards autoconf, but that is only a fraction of its functionality and I'm sure can be replaced. In fact, thinking about it, I've often wished the configuration stuff would move out of the individual packages so that duplication could be eliminated. So maybe that's what _I'm_ looking for.
But enough said. I have a much better idea of what the vocal Plan 9 community would (not) like. ++L
