For those following this thread, and wondering for themselves whether inferno might be what they want, I have now found, and processed, this information: https://pspodcasting.net/dan/blog/2019/plan9_desktop.html#inferno. It makes it clear, or seems to, that inferno represents a compromise designed to be more attractive to the average user. Anybody searching for a clean system, and willing to sacrifice the convenience of compatibility, and perhaps familiarity, to get it, will probably want to stick with plan9.
