Anyone have a favorite IDE for Java? NetBeans is cool, but it's not happy on a 233mhz machine with 64mb ram running win2k. I remember someone mentioning one they liked, but don't remember where, or what it was.

I generally use Emacs+JDEE. Some students of mine (I teach Java) seem to like the Eclipse IDE, which I installed, but I haven't played around with it yet.


If you look for a simple Java-aware editor, Textpad may be a good choice. JEdit and JCreator also look nice, but I haven't tried them yet.

Emacs, Eclipse and JEdit are open source/free software. Textpad and JCreator are commercial, but have a freeware/trial version.
