More followup: I've installed a bunch of packages, mostly ximian. I managed to get all the dependent packages installed so that I could try abiword-gnome-RH7.1-0.9.4.1-1.i386.rpm. *whew* Once that was done, I tried it and got the following:
package abiword-0.7.13-2 (which is newer than abiword-0.9.4.1-1) is already installed That made no sense whatsoever. So, I searched for abiword and found the ximian version for RH 7.2.
