The place to get help is on the AbiWord user mailing list. This page, http://www.abisource.com/support/help/maillist.phtml, describes how. I am CC'ing this response to the list. I don't remember if I have downloaded and installed the latest AbiWord at work; my connection at home is too slow to give it a try now. If you do a little research (starting by contacting the user list) and find that the problem is real, you may want to submit a bug report (http://www.abisource.com/support/bugs/).
I am not 100% sure I understand your problem. Is it after downloading the Abiword installer or running it? If the former, pay close attention to the dialog that appears when you click on the link to start the download. The exact dialog may depend on your browser (I use mozilla), but it will generally ask you for a directory to save the file. Remember this directory. When the download is complete, the browser may or may not let you know, depending on your personal settings. Go to the download directory. If you are running Windows, the file that was downloaded should be setup_abiword-1.0.1.exe. Double-click it to install AbiWord.
