We had been discussing it for Eclipse when IA2 was added. I see no reason
why it could not.

Thunderbird is generally web based. A role of "log" applied to the that log
"should" cause T-bird to tell JAWS that it is a live region and that it is
a chat log. http://www.w3.org/WAI/PF/aria/roles#log

Subject: [Accessibility-ia2] Using IA2 live region / politeness outside
            of HTML content
Sent by: accessibility-ia2-boun...@lists.linuxfoundation.org

Hey IA2 peeps,

Does anyone know if any apps & AT are using the IA2 attributes for live
region politeness outside of ARIA-markedup HTML? The question came up
today with a blind JAWS user who would like an accessible and efficient IM
solution. Since Thunderbird 15 now includes IM / live chat (and
Firefox/Mozilla generally support IA2), this seemed like it might be a nice
path forward for accessible/efficient IM on Windows - via the same IA2 APIs
for getting live regions to speak...

Regards,

Peter
