Marking of attendance is the individual responsibility of each of the
employee, so this is your responsibility to make it confirm either with the
help of any of your staff member or chair person, who's handling that seat.

This issue may be of a lot of people in other institutions as well.
Since your principal is skeptical, it might be a good idea to sign in
his presence, at least for a few weeks since he is unconvinced that
you are regular. Else some work around like signing with the
assistance of sighted collegues and giving the principal a buzz on
his telephone or intercom to inform him that you have marked your
attendence and that he might want to verify ( not for your sake but to
overcome his skepticism)
Given time, he might begin to overcome his lack of trust in you.
