Thanks Minar for clarification. I haven't tried auto debit by SBI.

Ever since the UPI came, I almost gave up on internet banking.

SBI also has auto debit option. Once you have added the vender amount

option.

The difficulty with paying phone or utility bill via the bank's
interface is that this is time taking, and some times, requires entering
of multiple OTPs. SBI for instance, requires you to enter two types of
different passwords, Login password and Profile password. The latter is
required while making the payment and then would ask for an OTP.
Further, you need to repeat this process each time you need to pay some
bill. On the other hand, UPI is one time setup, faster, and much more
efficient and the UPI pin is always the same so you can easily remember
it. Most of the popular UPI apps offer additional security wherein you
can choose to authenticate using an additional pin or your fingerprint
when you open the app. This way, no one except you can even open your app.

Hi Yamuna,

I can speak about HDFC Bank. You go to their bill pay system and need
to add your service provider. Once added, the bill amount will be
deducted automatically from the next time.

You have a web page where you need to add your relationship, phone
number etc for airtel. You then just follow the prompts.

Who do you bank with?

Hi Pranav,

You say it is possible to use the bank’s interface to pay the bill.

Do they send you a link by E-mail or something like that which takes
you to the payment gateway of your Bank to login and pay from there?
Or please say how you would do it from the bank directly? If I
remember correctly those links are only active for 30 minutes or so
and then they expire. That’s what happened when they signed me up for
the first time: the agent sent me a link by Whatsapp but by the time I
managed to get in the link had expired. He sent it again then it
worked. It took me to the Airtel page to show the payment details,
allowed me to click the Pay button which directed the browser to the
Login for ICICI, and once logged in there was a direct option to pay
with OTP to confirm from my phone number linked to my ICICI account.
Is this how it works?

Thanks.

Hi all,

The trick with airtel is not to use their site.

Use your bank or paytm to pay your bill.
