I agree this is accessibility issue. So the target of your petition must be BCCI and not AIR. BCCI, for your information, has been running a sport that fetches them approximately Rs 6000 Crore through selling broadcast rights and through sponsorship deals. Broadcasters sign up to contracts designed by BCCI that awards them the entire rights of broadcast and advertisement revenue and money they get by selling video footages and highlight packages. Since the stakes are very high, the television channels who buy the rights don't usually share them with anyone. Now, if the BCCI provides room for Public Service Broadcasters like AIR to provide radio commentary (which is different from TV transmission) then it would solve all the problems. First, we must put an RTI and see if such a provision is being given by BCCI in their contract to award broadcast rights to TV channels. If not, we need to hold BCCI liable for putting the sport beyond accessibility. It's not fair at all to hold AIR responsible for not paying crores or rupees for getting contracts which is quite unreasonable given that they need to invest on other kinds of programmes.
