The licensing fee is lower than the actual cost of the software. Jaws and
other products have software maintenance agreements where you pay an amount
for the next 2 versions. A lot of updates are free. Chargeable updates are
usually once in 2 years but that varies from program to program.

It s not a matter of keeping on paying for a set of upgrades. You need to
take into account the manufacturers policies in that regard and do what you
can to minimize the cost. With adaptive technology, I have yet to encounter
an upgrade that did not benefit me in some way.

Also, look at other screen readers like system access that have a
subscription model where you pay something like $30 per month and get all
the benefits of the program.
