One screen reader developed in India is Screen Access For All (SAFA). It is
now being supported by Ministry of Information Technology. NVDA is also a
good option although it is not developed in India, but some Indian
developers do contribute in it.

More information about SAFA would be available with NAB Delhi.

Hai Pranav:

Appologies for prolonging this thread, but I would like to know some of
the projects worked in open source. Is it possible for you to write to
me off the list and provide this info?

Hi Subramani,

1. Building screen readers does require specialist knowledge that can be
acquired.

2. It does not pay the bills.

3. There are people in India who are contributing actively to adaptive
technology development projects. These projects are usually open source.

Pranav
