Also, you can type by changing keyboard layout to malayalam in MS word or other text editor. For this, you need to install language pack and add malayalam as input language in XP. If you are using windows 7, just add malayalam input from control panel>regional and language >keyboards & languages. If you know braille, there is a program called Leos to write malayalam, english and hindi using braille keys in Linux. There are 3 methods to write malayalam. Choose one which is easy for you.

The typed text will be displayed in Malayalam. The keyboard layout is phonetic, thats to say, lik typing in English. Eg: if you Type malayALaM it will be displaied as Malayalam in Malayalam Alphabets. Hope this clears your doubt.
