hello,
while converting the pages with my adobe acrobat pro, it gives me the
option whether to include images in output or not. so i simply tell
acrobat to skip images and select the option text only. this removes
all the graphics which can't be recognised by ocr.

not sure whether it still reads the sections or text column etc as i
don't have such document handy to test. so if you can send or share
the same, i can try it out with it and let you know about the results.
thanks,
