--- Comment #108 from Xavier Hourcade <public....@xapaho.com> 2013-04-16 15:27:13 --- (In reply to comment #105) > Maybe its superstition, but when I suspend to RAM immediately after a boot, > the > shutdown happens only about every other two weeks. From my stats here above, in the end I discarded all strict conclusion thou, it's all very random (without suspending, it may well be stable too during days here). Being a little cautious (and "lucky"), it's easy to get several weeks in the row without any shutdown. And since we can "probe" stability prior to run heavier processes, the hardware remains usable generally, without serious impact for daily usage (and no data loss, thanks to ext4 here). > BTW. there is code in the thermal driver to perform a shutdown due to high > temperature. But even after disabling the thermal driver, the shutdown occurs. > So I think, the shutdown is initiated by EC and BIOS directly. Yes -- unless we have a distinct issue since I saw kernel messaging announcing shutdown several times despite it was disabled. Nevertheless it did occur also frequently at GRUB menu or even under Vista memory test (which I ran twice just to test this issue, cf. observations above). Hence yes, the EC/BIOS is actively shutting down the hardware. I think it even happened at the BIOS password screen, even once within BIOS interface IIRC (within a series, immediately after reboot). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.kernel.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Precog is a next-generation analytics platform capable of advanced analytics on semi-structured data.
