Agreed!

I told the director of marketing that the email tracking was implemented and
his immediate reaction was, "I'm going to tell everyone!"

To which my reaction was, "Tell no one!"

Folks always get excited over new ways to track customers and clients. That
excitement always fades when it becomes apparent that interpreting the new
data is tough and does not produce miracles.

In this case, the tracking is used to help determine if each client is
interested in maintaining an existing business relationship. In this
scenario, the email tracking is probably a bit more useful than aggregate
tracking for marketing.
