I did a little research and found a library that isolates the required code from the jQuery framework to do this.
IMHO, if you are doing any serious javascript coding that uses or manipulates the DOM, it really pays to use a framework like jQuery (or Prototype/Dojo/etc), just as it pays to use Active4D when you are doing serious web programming with 4D.
