I saw that while re-reading the docs.

I definitely wouldn't want to put those Library paths in safe doc
dirs, but in my case -45 indicates that the folder exists (It would
return -43 if it didn't and I don't care if it is locked). I just
can't rely on directory exists.

I tried that and the web root still says it is not a directory and
is locked. 

I modified active4D.ini so that

    safe doc dirs = <default>

I also modified the test to include a few folders that are in the
web root. After those changes directory exists now returns true and
(test path name = is a directory).
For /Library/Application Support/4D/com.aparajita/Active4D/web/
directory exists returns True and test path name =0
For /Library/Application
Support/4D/com.aparajita/Active4D/web/uploads/ directory exists
returns True and test path name =0
For /Library/Application
Support/4D/com.aparajita/Active4D/web/uploads/156811/ directory
exists returns True and test path name =0
