In the migrations that I have done, we have used the ADC just to populate AD
with the mailbox information of the user accounts. Once that is done, all
maintenance happens in AD. As soon as we shut down the last Exchange 5.5
server, the ADC gets shut down. We could probably do it earlier, but I have
had no problems with it running in the background in the past.

I was just looking for clarification of what Graham's goals were. It was
difficult to answer the question without having all of the information.
