What are your reasons for wanting your directory extended at this point.  Will you at 
some point be upgrading to Exchange 2000.  

If you don't wish to keep your existing organisation and site names then you can 
happily go ahead with a new organisation.  This will have no links to the existing 
Exchange 5.5 Organisation.  If you decide to upgrade you will have to look at creating 
new mailboxes and putting in connectors etc.

If you join the existing site you will need to put in the ADC etc.  This will change 
your current Exchange 5.5 organisation.
