While cross posting works well for usenet, the same is not necessarily true (IMHO) for mailing lists for two reasons. First, anybody replying must remove the mailing lists that they are not subscribed to from the response, or manage the bounce messages that they will receive. Second, while any news reader worthy of the name can mange cross posts correctly, I an not aware of any mail software that can manage cross posting to multiple mailing lists in the same way (if anybody knows of mail software that can, I would be interested in a pointer). > -------8<--------- > Personally I don't much care for the posting rules - like don't cross > post, don't top post . . . Whatever your view of netiquette or posting conventions, they are mostly arrived at through consensus over many years, to make communication in fora such as this easier and more effective. Deliberately flouting those conventions is seen as rude by many people. Most will simply ignore such posts, but some are prepared to risk being called anal, or worse, by trying to make the poster, and other readers, aware of the conventions. Don't forget that your chances of getting a question answered is proportional to how easy you are prepared to make it for those who might volunteer their time to respond.
