Just in case you are still working on this, a few bullet points. 1) Active State doesn't have the Crypt::DES module pre-built. You have to download it from CPAN & build it yourself. I ran into this a long time ago & Active State said the more secure encryption packages require a license to distribute & they didn't want to bother with that. I understand that this is a big headache to acquire from the government.
2) If you are behind a corporate firewall, you will have problems using PPM. You'll need to work with your firewall team to resolve any issues. 3) Finally, you can manually download any active state module that is pre-built & then use PPM to install it. Still much easier than building some of them yourself. Also this way you know it's compatible with the build you got from active state. Use this link if you are not using 5.10 http://aspn.activestate.com/ASPN/Downloads/ActivePerl/PPM/Zips and select the correct version of Perl. (Only 5.5, 5.6, & 5.8, sorry no 5.10) I don't have a link for 5.10. If you download the zip file, use WinZip to extract the contents & run "ppm install <packagename>.ppd" Don't try to use WinZip against any internal zip files, PPM will handle that extraction for you. The advantage to downloading the files yourself is that you can control which versions get installed & you can easily rebuild an identical Perl platform with very little effort. (Assuming you kept the msi file as well.) 4) If I remember right, Crypt::DES has a prerequisite that is available from ActiveState. I believe it's called Crypt::CBC. If you are missing that module, that might be part of your original problem. Finally, Sorry I don't have a pre-built copy to give out. Assuming that you have a recent version (you don't say which IIRC), it should be a simple matter of selecting the module that you want to install in the GUI, and telling it to download and install, or typing something like 'ppm install Crypt::DES' at the command line. It is certainly a lot easier than trying to build it yourself, as the package in the ppm archive has already been built (an advantage that the ppm archive has over CPAN).
