assuming both of these statements are true, then perhaps the best thing to do
would be to pool resources and coordinate. Canopener states on it main page
that it aims to work with user groups, perhaps this is an excellent
oppotunity to do so.

CLUE could create an advocacy agenda and Canopener could be the service
provider to accomplish that agenda, if you will. CLUE could funnel both man
power and funds as appropriate into Canopener so as to remain focussed on
serving user groups first and formost, and Canopener could reciprocate by
showing results and coordinated efforts.

this would represent a merging of agendas and sharable resources in a
customer->provider type relationship without actually requiring a merging of
the groups or a serious side-tracking of either group's agenda.

while i hate to say this: how well you are known in the advocacy circles is
hardly relevant. how well known your efforts are to those not in your
advocacy circles is. (note: not how well know you are known, but your efforts
are known.)

advocacy means advocating, and i can't find any links on canopener.ca showing
what sort of advocating is getting done by those involved (so i can't comment
on your efficacy). the FAQ isn't populated, and otherwise all that is to be
found is a web board and some sparsely posted-to mailing lists. am i missing
the link to the information i am searching for?

your weblinks area is also broken, check out:

http://www.canopener.ca/modules.php?op=modload&name=Web_Links&file=index&req=search&query=calgary.linux.ca

(btw, i'm not sure why CLUG is in that category and not under Start / Canadian
Linux User Groups (LUGS) / Alberta, or both.. or why the two are different
categories at all....)

we also have things like GOSLING. this is a nice idea, but i can't help but
wonder why there is both a GOSLING and a Canopener? if we want to see action
on the part of the government and private enterprise, we need a strong and
coordinated voice. preferably one that receives validation from related
national groups, such as CLUE.

i guarentee you that as long as the groups remain splintered and non-aligned
with competing or overlapping agendas very little change will be affected
because very little will get done.

we need a big wave, not a pond full of little ripples.
