Thought I'd give an update...
After reviewing your replies to this thread and doing some extra
research it basically came down to 2 ways to get my 8mm analog tapes
digitized, using a Digital8 camcorder which can also play and
digitize analog 8mm tapes, or use a high-end 8mm deck and feed the
analog output into my MiniDV camcorder in pass through mode.
For hardware the best choices rose to the top quickly. The ultimate
Digital8 camcorder seems to be the TRV820, and the ultimate 8mm deck,
the EV-S7000. They seem to a fairly comparable job, each having some
pros and cons. I decided to try the TRV820 first and have just
purchased one off of Ebay. I'm anxious to run some of my oldest
tapes through it to and see how it works. If I'm not happy with the
results, I may also purchase an EV-S7000 deck and try that.
I'll report back in when I get the TRV820 and give it a try. The
unit supposedly has been used very little. Do you guys think I
should run a head cleaning tape through it first?
BTW, once I get all my old tapes in the computer, I'll be looking to
resell the equipment to someone else who needs to do the same thing.
Thanks,
Randy
