Than, I will try Window Movie Maker.

A friend had the same problem recently. I did not have the Sony software 
on my computer and in desperation tried
Windows Movie Maker to capture the footage via USB as avi. Worked well 
. At least Movie Maker was good for something.
Imported the file into PP2 and was able to edit.
