I had all sorts of problems with XP 32/XP 64 bit, I don't think it likes AVCHD one bit, even on a similar system as yours.
Solution was Win7 64 bit and an upgrade to P.Pro CS5 (unfortunately for you), but it now works perfectly. The other thing to know is that AVCHD really wants a RAID 0 (striped) HDD setup, that alone 'could' be your sole problem. Shame the demo doesn't handle MPEG in any shape or form (H.264 is MPEG).
