Barry and Uwe: I may have to start using the Win 7 side of my dual boot. I've
been kinda avoiding it because Win XP and Win 7, I found out the HARD WAY, DO
NOT PLAY NICE TOGETHER. If you go into Win 7, and then go back into Win XP, the
system freaks out and tries to run ChkDsk, and when it does, it hoses a WHOLE
BUNCH of data. Again, I found that out the HARD WAY by losing a LOT of my Pro
Tools audio work. ChkDsk LITERALLY DELETED GBs upon GBs of data. Thank GOD for
a program called "Get My Data Back" by RunTime Software. It LITERALLY SAVED MY
BUTT.

I am confused: I REALLY REALLY REALLY want to continue using my Flip Ultra HD
video camera because it is just SO DARN CONVENIENT to have in my pocket at ALL
TIMES, and I can capture just anything on a moment's notice. Well, it IS "HD",
but its default file format (which CANNOT BE CHANGED) is MP4. So, my question
is: Does this Flip camera being "Hi Def", mean that it automatically IS
"AVCHD"? Does "AVCHD" mean the same thing as "Hi Def"? And so, could THAT be my
whole problem?

RDH: Yes, I am trying to edit with MP4s because that is what comes off my Flip
camera by default. I was thinking exactly the way you are, and using a program
called "Prism Video Converter", I converted all the files from MP4 to AVI, but
when I did, the files became HUGE, and the system would barely play them at
all, only with a slow-motion-style frame-by-frame click-along....TOTALLY
UNUSABLE. What's interesting though, is that I brought in AVI files from
PREVIOUS PROJECTS that were done on a cheap tape DVC camcorder (not hi-def),
and the video clips worked like a champ. I can't go back and re-shoot with the
other camera though, because the barn has been torn down, and even if it was
still standing, that was two days of shooting with a sick child in 100+ degree
heat, and SWARMS of bees, gnats, mosquitos, etc., and TONS of poisonous snakes
lurking very near by I am quite sure! I won't be going back to shoot at that
place! LOL! :)

So...What should I do now?

Thanks,
Steve
