I am using a Mede8er media player and am extremely happy with it.
It did cost a bit more though. Different models are available.
The cheapest model needs external storage media like a HDD,
the more expensive ones have a built in HDD (I think up to 2TB).
Mine has a 500GB built in HDD. When you connect the player to the
computer via USB it works like an external HDD and you can copy files 
across..

I do not put any videos on BR discs (don't trust discs). All my H.264 movies
are stored on HDD and the media player is a additional back up.

Western Digital make very good media players as well.

I don't know whether Mede8er and WD players are available in the USA.
I don't want to miss mine.
