I had that years ago, on an old PC. I needed a new one :-) Sounds like its bottle necking somewhere in the system, although your specs seem modest. If you are using external drives to edit to/from, that seems like the obvious choice. I tried E-SATA once, but it wasn't much better than USB 2, probably as it wasn't configured properly in the BIOS or some other reason.
You always want to use internal drives for editing, unless you are working via proxy from an external one (where PP takes thumbnails/snapshots that are less demanding on the system). I'm guessing that by 5GB you really mean 5TB? Cheers, Neil.
