We also have serveral 3494s.  I would also recommend them.  It was my
understanding from our CE that when you get the dual gripper you also loose
the top and bottom rows of tape storage. I'd rather have the space so we
opted not to get the dual gripper.

We have a 3494 with a dual gripper.  Based upon experience, I'd
recommend not getting a dual gripper unless you have a high
frequency of tape transitions.  I'd expect that few shops have
that kind of usage, and would find the tape cells otherwise lost
to dual gripper equipage to be far more valuable.
