select volume_name, type, date(date_time) as DATE from volhistory where volume_name='VOLSERXXX'
If it is a DbBackkup volume it should say so in the q libvol. - It may have been "Made private to prevent re-use", meaning that TSM tried to use it, but there was some kind of drive or media error that could not be overcome. It is like marking a bad sector on a hard drive. If you had a tape drive error the tape is probably reusable. (((Thanks Wanda))) - If you think it might just have been a dirty tape drive you can try resetting the status to "scratch" and see if it gets used. update libvol <library_name> <volserxxx> status=scratch If you don't trust that and don't want to wait to see if the tape is good: - Try checking the tape back out: checkout libvol <library_name> <volserxxx> remove=no - Then look at the actlog to see if TSM was able to mount the tape. It it went well, then try to label it back in. Look for drive errors: select count(msgno) as "ANR8944E Hardware or media error" from actlog where msgno=8944 and date_time>current_timestamp -1 days For tapes that have errors and DO have data you can try auditing the volume to see if the media itself is serviceable. audit volume (volserxxx) fix=no (or fix=yes) monitor the process, check the actlog George Huebschman (George H.) How can I check is it assigned to any pool? Private means its being in use by tsm right?
