Long ago (it seems) someone gave me this select statement...I used to have
to run it on a weekly basis on my stuffed library:

select volume_name , status from libvolumes where status='Private' and
volume_name not in (select volume_name from
volumes) and volume_name not in (select volume_name from volhistory
where type not in('STGNEW','STGREUSE','STGDELETE') )

tsm: ADSM1>select volume_name , status from libvolumes where
status='Private' and volume_name not in (select volume_name from
volumes) and volume_name not in (select volume_name from volhistory
where type not in('STGNEW','STGREUSE','STGDELETE') )

VOLUME_NAME STATUS
------------------ ----------------
CE Private
VOLZ114 Private
VOLZ297 Private
VOLZ298 Private
VOLZ299 Private
VOLZ455 Private
VOLZ720 Private

It is interesting that I have three consecutive tapes made private. There
is also a service tape in with the data tapes.

- You can also check for events recent enough that they still reside in
the actlog by looking for this Warning message,ANR8778W:
     q actlog begind=-10 msgno=8778

help ANR8778W
ANR8778W Scratch volume volume name changed to Private Status to
      prevent re-access.

Not sure if someone mentioned that if the tape is not labeled internally,
it will keep going back to "private" whenever TSM tries to use it.
