I have unofficially hosted OpenBSD torrents at http://openbsd.somedomain.net for quite a few years now and they are not very popular. I believe this is because the install is relatively small and the official mirrors are pretty fast. The only time I see downloads are in the few weeks right after a new release.
The only benefit I have actually seen from providing torrents is a significant decrease in the number of messages on the lists asking for torrents every release cycle. If they were hosted "officially" the popularity would likely increase slightly, but since you can get the SHA256 from an official location and check that against what you downloaded matches there isn't a technical benefit to being official torrents just marketing. l8rZ, -- andrew - http://afresh1.com What are the unsurpassable real world weaknesses in OpenBSD, that you know of? -- Kevin Chadwick <[email protected]> Lots of fake people attacking the project on the mailing lists makes them a poor resource for users. -- Theo de Raadt <[email protected]>
