Yeah, I would think the same thing. If I’m able to get the CDP/LLDP packets I should be able to mac-telnet to it.
I’m able to mac-telnet to the ethernet side, just not the wlan side. I can mac-telnet to an SM from a routerOS device at the customer’s location but I would like to be able to reach it from the tower through the wlan. It’s almost like mac-telnet is enabled on the ethernet interface and not the wlan interface, even though LLDP/CDP get sent for both interfaces. I wish changing the password helped, but it doesn’t seem to make a difference. I do appreciate the suggestions… From: AF <af-boun...@af.afmug.com> On Behalf Of Josh Luthman Sent: Friday, November 09, 2018 1:52 PM To: AnimalFarm Microwave Users Group <af@af.afmug.com> Subject: Re: [AFMUG] mac telnet from RouterOS to an ePMP, has anyone ever gotten this working? If you're getting those ARP layer 2 packets and can ping it, surely you have to be able to mac-telnet (unless the application denies you). Defaults should work once you've changed the password according to the GUI. I do see 2 MAC Addresses for our AP’s, but I’m trying to MAC telnet into the SM’s. When doing a mac-telnet to the AP, it works fine when connecting to the wireless MAC even though I’m coming in through the ethernet side of things (weird) I tried changing the MAC to the ethernet interface of the SM just to say I tried it but that didn’t work either…. It works fine for me, but it looks like you need to use the wireless MAC address, and not the ethernet MAC (this is on an AP in bridge mode, an SM in router mode would be different, I assume). I initially just right clicked on the MAC in the neighbor list in Winbox, and selected MAC, and it connected fine... after that, I realized both MAC addresses were there, so I tried the other one, and it just disconnected. It immediately closes the connection as soon as i enter the password. When i hold my mouse over the tooltip on the setting for mac-telnet under configuration->system, it tells me that I need to change the password for it to work. I have done that and I am still getting the same results. Has anybody ever gotten mac-telnet to work from a RoterOS device connecting to an ePMP and if so, what is the trick?
