We have done the $10 a day the last couple of times in Europe. Works pretty
well but there is a limited amount of high speed data per day and then they
slow it down for the rest of the day to 3G. Just have to be careful.

I've used a data only sim in Croatia before. It was unlimited data for
something cheap like $15 for 10 days.

What I don't understand is why people are using whatsapp? No one I know uses it
but everyone I know has Facebook and with messenger and you can chat, call, and
video message. So why go out of the way to download a redundant app like
whatsapp?

I've been on cruises, overseas many times and I either pay Verizon $10 a day
for the roaming or if long term, I buy a sim card just for data. All voice
calls I do over Facebook, our office voip through an android app, or slack.

Bill,

Yeah, that's verizon's pay as you go rate. $10/day adds up quick. Doing some
research, I can get some European data only sim's for about $35 for 30 days
with about 8GB of data. 8GB should be good enough for keeping up to date with
whatsapp and basic web surfing.
Guess I can check my voicemail and get texts on my main number when I'm near
WiFi. I do have a Boingo account I rarely use. I think they have an App the
will detect and automatically connect to their hotspots. Thinking between that,
public WiFi and a data only SIM, I should be reachable most of the time.

Whatever you do, be sure to explore your options. A friend who just spent 3
weeks in Australia & had not really looked into the options spent $10/day for
cell service while there. 21 x $10 =$210. I guess that's not horrible, but I
tend to think about what else I might have wanted to spend that money on.

I have T-mobile one account and use whatsapp mainly. Everywhere I have
been the included international roaming data connection has worked
descent enough with Whatsapp that I really never looked at any other
options. The additional I pay for the One on top of the regular service
would probably equal the same as what it would be for a couple of sim
cards and service.
