Sort of, we do maintain an outside or permiter NID for cross connecting an OSP drop from the plant side (MST). And from the NID we usually install a hard microduct of the kind actually used in outdoor OSP, which helps maintain the integrity of the inside patch cable connected to the drop and the ONT/Router. We've done smurf tube as well, but that can get damaged more often and more prone to kink during final construction phases, so prefer the hard microduct conduit we stock for that (and sometimes microtrenching).
That is all in greenfield new build. In one major project we decided to work into their construction schedule and install interior micro-duct at the low voltage phase. Then we come back and populate each MDU or Condo unit with our fiber and actually install an NID/ONT/Router combo so it's ready to go when the customer moves in. We get over 50 percent take rate doing this, though it costs us extra to provision every single unit, it's worth it down the road to just have it there to turn up when the resident requests it. We beat Cable and other fiber provider to market this way because of our closer relationship with the builder and the on site CM's. Some residents "move" their cable to their new home, but even then sometimes the cable or other fiber plant is behind on their build and we beat them by being there already. This is in an area fully served by 5G with both T-Mobile and Verizon, EZfiber FTTH, as well as Xfinity and Asound with Coax, and U-Verse. We're thinking about talking to the management about also being a provider, since this is a greenfield build, and getting to the building is an easy build. But I was curious how the Internal connections in Modern MDU's are setup. Do all Apartments have pre-installed coax/Cat5 running back to a Telco room. Do they make the different providers wire the building with their own connections during construction?
