A visit, an exparte, sending the customer I dunno, lots of ways to bug an
agency.
Who and where is the agency?

We don't have that kind of money... :)

Bummer. Can you lobby the regulators like in the U.S.?

I am afraid the rules (i.e. the LBT requirements) apply across the entire
5.4 band in ETSI-land... 5470-5725 MHz.

But if you are not even capable (software disabled) of operating on those
frequencies, do you still have to do the listen before talk?

Matthieu - Seeing as I cannot determine your email address from this one...
can you please email me offlist?
We have recently made the PMP 430 available again in ETSI until the end of
the year (with the recent software, we pass EN 301 893 v1.6.1, which is
still in effect until Dec. 31).
m...@cambiumnetworks.com
I will make sure you get in touch with the right folks to help get you what
you need.
Chuck - v1.6.1 required detection of 0.5 microsecond pulses. At the time
this version took effect (January 1, 2013), our algorithms did not reliably
detect this pulse width. Since then, we have made it work, and are in
process of updating our DoC to sell again into the EU. However, an
additional change (v1.7.1) takes effect on January 1, 2015 requiring a form
of Listen Before Talk, which will NOT make it into our legacy platforms (PMP
100 or PMP 430), but will be included for PMP 450 as part of R13.3.
Hope that sheds a bit of light on it...
Matt

Be interesting to know the details. I don't think there is actually a "dfs"
chip in the unit. There is a DSP chip and perhaps there is some out of band
emissions that do not fit into some kind of European emissions mask.

dfs frequencies are already notched out for the etsi zone.
from what I've heard from my cambium pre-sale engineer, it's the dfs chip
that does not meet the new european requirements, and anything from the
pmp100/400/430 family is prohibited to import in Europe. We have to deal
with the remaining units already imported.

One would think Cambium could build you an option to notch out the DFS
frequencies and make it legal.

+1
in France, we can't buy pmp430 sm (or ap, or pmp 100 family ) anymore,
due to the dfs regulation, so we absolutely need this, or we will have
to change all APs in our networks...

Will they ever make the 450SM talk to our old 430AP's ?
I hate buying two different types of SM's, especially knowing that
I'll want to replace the damn 430 with a 450 later.
