Sometimes it's color coding what I have open, sometimes not. I don't pay attention to when it is or isn't as I'm usually just in there to make edits and not composing from scratch. Usually I'm just searching for a string near what I want to edit, then just edit it.

Our zones are kept in a MySQL database for PowerDNS.
