I was using phihong power supplies 20+ years ago. From: Ken Hohhof Sent: Thursday, June 25, 2015 6:20 PM To: af@afmug.com Subject: Re: [AFMUG] Canopy POE end of life :-/
The one I have sitting here says Phihong but it’s old enough to be Motorola not Cambium. If Cambium was worried about losing a bunch of sales, they wouldn’t be dropping the product. My guess is it’s a minimum order thing. They probably have to order X thousands at a time and the last order took them a year or two to unload to distributors, and it was time to decide whether to order another container load of them and have them take up warehouse space, plus now they would be carrying two versions of POE. So if CTI or another distributor wanted to order a bunch direct from the manufacturer (or a knockoff from somewhere else), it would be reasonable to expect Cambium to give the OK. I wouldn’t expect them to cry over the lost revenue though. I thought CTI had gotten some PSUs straight from the manufacturer years ago when there was a Motorola shortage, you could check with them. I haven't seen that as a big problem on the PMP320. They normally cost ~$10 so the eBay price of $24 is someone trying to make a buck on them before they are gone. Also eventually eBay will run out too so that's not a long term solution. The new POE is also very cumbersome and prone to clients plugging things in backwards etc. Can you either keep selling them or give us access to the manufacturer so that we can still buy them? -Sean _______________________________________________ Members mailing list memb...@wispa.org http://lists.wispa.org/mailman/listinfo/members
