Yeah, yeah, yeah, but I’m not putting sectors at a legacy repeater site in a tiny town with 6 subs which of course are in all different directions. The site is currently 2.4 FSK and an omni with 7 degrees downtilt, but the 2.4 interference has become too bad.
I have been trying to use Rockets in U-NII-1 with the Ubiquiti 10 dBi omni, but the range is really poor plus I’m tired of waiting for the SOON firmware for the Beams. I also see home routers now coming preset to use channels 36-48 by default (which makes sense), so U-NII-1 may not stay quiet in town. My experience with 5 GHz dual pol omnis has been disappointing, I'm wondering if these bigger, more expensive omnis deliver better performance. 11 dBi isn't much if you can lose 3-5 dB at certain azimuths, another few dB depending on frequency, and another 3 dB at zero elevation due to 4 degrees electrical downtilt with an 8 degree beamwidth. For $600+ and 6 inches diameter, I'd expect it to wash and wax my car.
